Garage, sweet garage.

For those who have a need for more storage and a few extra bucks to spend, the dream of garage ownership can become a reality at GarageTown, at the eastern edge of Spokane Valley.

“The main thing here is to have ownership equity,” said owner Jeff Stephens, who sells units at the storage facility. “People here are attracted to the ownership aspect.”
Unlike traditional mini storage units, GarageTown’s storage areas can be purchased, condominium style.

The units come in two sizes, 20 feet by 48 feet, and 24 feet by 48 feet. They range in price from $71,500 to $84,900, plus monthly maintenance fees. The property has about 100 spaces, and nearly half of them have been sold.

Buyers so far include people who need a place to store their classic cars, RVs or boats, Stephens said. Some companies have bought units to store documents, and other companies use the space for extra inventory storage.

“It seems like every new buyer has a new use for the space,” Stephens said.
Subcontractors, landscapers and other small businesses often use the space to work out of, though retail use is not allowed, he said.

The units feature heat, power, telephone and cable hookups, as well as large doors and insulated walls. The property includes a clubhouse, which holds couches, chairs, a refrigerator and a high-definition television set. The clubhouse can be rented out for special functions.
